Research Interests

Prof. Xu directs research programs focusing on understanding and linking genetic traits with phenotypic behavior of antimicrobial resistant bacteria, especially his laboratory is interested in identifying the prevalence, occurrence, and sources of antimicrobial resistant genes/microorganisms that occur within the aquatic system and are of consequence to human therapeutic treatment. He aims to better identify reservoirs of and mechanisms of horizontal transferring of antibiotic resistance genes and the functions of those genes from environmental bacteria.
